TEMPE – The Arizona Cardinals were a rare favorite Sunday as they hosted the one-win Oakland Raiders.

Leading 21-20 in the waning minutes, all the Cardinals had to do was avoid disaster and run out the clock. Instead, a series of mistakes that included a dropped interception, two costly penalties and a blown coverage in the secondary led to another loss and only increased the pressure on first-year coach Steve Wilks. TEMPE — Critical mistakes in all areas of the game cost the Arizona Cardinals more times than they would have liked in 2016. Throughout Organized Team Activities, Bruce Arians has been making a strong point to address and work toward correcting those mistakes.

“That’s been a big point of emphasis,” Arians said following OTA’s on Thursday.

“We had plays that we had made years past, that we just didn’t make. Whether it be kicks, finishing a game defensively or offensively … we just didn’t make the plays and had a couple mental errors in critical situations that we hadn’t made in the past.”

As the horn sounded and OTA’s wrapped, you could sense a certain frustration from the Cardinals coach.

CHANDLER — It was a normal Wednesday morning at the Whirlwind Golf Club at Wild Horse Pass, except for one small detail: The Arizona Cardinals were in attendance.

Cardinals players, coaches and team personnel hit the course to connect with fans and for a charitable cause in conjunction with Dignity Health and Cardinals Charities.

And although golf was what brought the Cardinals together, it wasn’t the only focus. Before the event started, Cardinals management admitted it had the 2017 NFL Draft on its mind.

PHOENIX – A classic overachiever, Michael Humphrey worked hard to secure a scholarship at Stanford.

A similar drive will be needed by the Cardinal junior and his teammates next week when they open Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Tournament play in Las Vegas.

“I think Stanford was the right fit for me,” the Sunnyslope High School product said. “It gave me the opportunity to get myself in a new environment and be close enough to home.”

PHOENIX – Former Arizona Cardinals guard Jerome Daniels held nothing back when asked his prediction for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.

“Cardinals are going to win. That’s all I know.”

While a win on the field may still be up for grabs, a win off the field is already guaranteed.

Prior to Sunday’s game, the Cardinals will hold their annual holiday food drive presented by Hyundai benefitting the St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance. Continue reading “Cardinals kick off holiday food drive”

TEMPE – The Arizona Cardinals bounced back from a home-opening loss with a 40-7 blowout win Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a game in which the offense scored four touchdowns on 315 yards in the air and 101 yards on the ground.

But while the score depicted a stellar offensive effort, coach Bruce Arians was anything but pleased.

“The score doesn’t indicate how poorly we played offensively.” Arians said. “We can get a lot better. Communication was not very good in the beginning of the game and way too many mental errors, especially by a couple of young players.”

Arians specifically pointed to Cardinals second-year running back David Johnson, who led his team with 152 total yards, as the source of some of the unit’s offensive struggles.
